Ella McGruder
Managing Partner,
Director of Training
Ella McGruder was born and has lived most of her adult life in Bryan Texas. Ella credits her parents for raising her in the church as Ella’s religious beliefs have helped shape her into the person that she is today. In addition, Ella’s mother had a tremendous influence over her life, teaching good life skills such as, “Think twice and speak once”.

After high school Ella attended North Texas State University where she dreamed of going into fashion design. That was, until she returned to Bryan as an adult and realized that the community that she grew up in had some alarming social, health and economic problems that needed her attention. She realized quickly that some of the people in Bryan (her friends) needed help and often did not know where to turn. Ella’s passion for people, especially the “underdog” called her into public service, with the past 28 years spent working at Project Unity. This passion evolved with the conception of Intake1 LLC and its focus on Person Centered case management.

Responsibilities include: project development and management, compliance monitoring, supervision of staff/projects, and project evaluation.
Performs special studies and research to assist in the development of programs, projects, and procedures to meet the identified needs of low-income, special need and at-risk children and families and decrease the barriers to obtaining comprehensive and effective services.
Assists with the administrative and management responsibilities of the organization as well as the development and implementation of management policies and procedures

Ella has served on several committees such as the Homeless Coalition, the Red Cross, Strategic Planning Committee for Bryan ISD, GEAR Up Bryan ISD and Treasurer for Little League. Ella’s dedication to the needs of the community are realized daily as she “walks the walk” much more than she talks the talk. People needing help come in Project Unity’s door every day saying they were told to ask for “Ella”. One man walked 4 miles with a post it note in his hand that said, “Talk to Ella”.
True to her religious beliefs, she tries to live a life that exemplifies selflessness and kindness day in and day out.

Ella cherishes time with her family, husband Leonard, 4 children and 9 grandchildren.
